Luxury fashion, as well as a certain aesthetic, is often seen as emblematic of French culture. The reign of King Louis XIV was a period of staggering growth for the production of luxury goods in France. This presentation explores the presence of French-made luxury goods in French texts written between 1660 and 1715 by mining texts from various genres for references to luxury goods, particularly mirrors, silks, laces, and writing desks.
