The Quogue Library Summer Series concludes with a conversation between Pulitzer Prize-winning author Paul Harding and Quogue Resident and Whiting Award winner Genevieve Sly Crane.

Harding is the director of the MFA in Creative Writing & Literature at Stony Brook University and won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for his novel Tinkers. His current novel, This Other Eden, was inspired by the true story of Malaga Island, an isolated island off the coast of Maine that became one of the first racially integrated towns in the Northeast. It is the story of formerly enslaved Benjamin Honey and his Irish wife, Patience, and how they discovered an island where they could make a life together. A century later, the Honeys’ descendants and diverse group of neighbors are desperately poor, isolated, and often hungry, but nevertheless protected from the hostility awaiting them on the mainland. The book is an enduring testament to the struggle to preserve human dignity in the face of intolerance and injustice.

Crane won the Whiting Award in 2020 for her first book Sorority, about the dark side of sisterhood. She currently teaches in the Creative Writing and Literature BFA program at Stony Brook University. Her second novel will be published this fall.

Their conversation will be followed by a Q&A and reception with book sales and signing. $10 Per person.
